“I hope I get one someday,” Mallory whispered.
Chapter 51
“Want to try it on?” I asked Mallory.
“Yes,” Mallory whispered. “But I don’t want to ruin it with my Lion Hair full of shampoo.”
“It’ll be okay,” I said.
“You don’t think your Gingy and Poopsie would be mad?”
“No,” I said, imagining their faces.
Proud faces.
“I think they’d be happy.”
“Let’s try on each other’s,” Mallory suggested.
“Okay,” I said, and we did.
“We look great,” Mallory said.
“We both look great!” I said.
We jumped around so happy together.
Sorry I let my nasty thoughts out, Mallory, I thought.
But it was too hard to let that nice sentence out right then.
Maybe sometimes it’s okay to keep your nice sentences inside your private head, too.
I don’t know.
I was too busy jumping around in a circle with Mallory to decide about that.
Chapter 52
We walked in from recess together.
Before we got in, I asked Mallory for my cow-ears headband back.
I put it on my head.
It wasn’t too squishy anymore.
It was perfect.
Chapter 53
When we got back into Class 2B, Ms. Patel had great news!
It was time to make our Leaf Collage!
Everybody’s leaves looked different.
But they were all beautiful.
We did some good arranging.
We gave each other space.
We used a lot of glue.
It looked great.
Like us.
